For this piece, my goal was to create something based on the feeling or sense one gets when they are right on the verge of something new. My current body of work involves the feelings one goes through during the process of change, and I wanted to encapsulate that sensation one has when they are right on the cusp of change. My experience with this feeling is that during this moment one may not yet quite know what the change is they are about to undergo. They just feel like something new is about to happen. Something new is just around the corner. Based on these personal experiences with change, I knew that I wanted my piece to have a dome-like quality with organic forms surrounding it in a chaotic manner, and with a small opening that one could barely see inside-to evoke that sense that one can not quite see what is to come, or what's in store.

The following images show the process in forming this piece. I used the bowl of a former fire pit to create my dome piece. The "chaos" I created with 1/4 steel rods. I used a plasma cutter to alter the dome, as well as a hammer. The steel rods were altered by using a propane torch, an anvil and a mallet. The rods were tacked and welded together using a MIG welder. The dome was spray painted with a metallic paint.
Finished Product (For Now)
I feel that this piece needs further work and hope to thoroughly complete it over the Winter Break.
